Our Level 3 Sports Massage course is fully accredited by YMCA Awards and is endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). The course also provides 16 REP points that are valid towards your annual CPD requirements.

On successful completion of our Level 3 Sports Massage course, learners will gain the knowledge and understanding needed to plan, provide and evaluate sports massage therapy. Treatments can be carried out for pre, post and inter-event for maintenance and restorative purposes, via a range of massage techniques.

Learners will feel confident, safe and effective in their practice of sports massage therapy, and will be able to provide sports massage immediately after successful completion of this course.

Scope of practice is restricted to working on dysfunctional tissue and is not suitable for recent acute injuries or pre-existing conditions (see Level 4 Sports Massage course).

Day 1

Pre-Workshop Online Learning Online

We set out the course navigation (for both the online and face to face elements of the course), and provide an overview of how you will be assessed. Prior to the face-to-face workshop session, you will complete safety lessons on our online platform where you will learn:

  • Contraindications and precautions
  • Adverse events
  • How to deal with adverse events

Lessons on anatomy and physiology, structure and function are provided in bite-sized chunks, meaning that you can learn in your own time whenever and wherever it suits you. We explain all theory and jargon in an easy to understand manner, allowing you to pause, rewind and replay as often as you like.

Face-to-Face Workshop Day 1

On day one of the face-to-face workshop, you will learn the following:

  • Purpose and Application of Palpation
  • Establish Treatment Goals & Subjective Assessment
  • Objective Assessment
  • Introduction to Massage Techniques (Effleurage, Petrissage, Tapotement, Vibrations, Frictions)

Face-to-Face Workshop Day 2

On day two of the face-to-face workshop, you will learn the following:

  • Assess ROM of major joints of the body
  • Purpose and application of MET’s (Muscle Energy Technique)
  • Legal Responsibilities & Best Practice
  • Constructing Treatment Plans

Face-to-Face Workshop Day 3

On day three of the face-to-face workshop, you will learn the following:

  • Effects and practical application of Pre Event Massage
  • Effects and practical application of Post Event Massage
  • Case Studies

Post-Workshop Online Learning and AssessmentOnline

After the face-to-face workshop, you will return to our online platform to consolidate your learning and to take your assessment.

  • Multiple choice Anatomy & Physiology theory exam (70% pass mark)
  • Sports Massage Portfolio submission
  • Practical assessment of Massage, including: Pre Event Massage, Post Event Massage, Maintenance Massage
