About
Gerard Hargreaves is a Senior Lecturer at Breeze Academy and an experienced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with nearly four decades in physiotherapy. His expertise spans musculoskeletal rehabilitation, rheumatological physiotherapy, and sports injuries, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based education for healthcare professionals.
Gerard holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and an MSc in Health Sciences, reflecting his dedication to professional development and academic excellence. Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in physiotherapy education, clinical leadership, and service innovation, with a strong focus on technology-driven, patient-centred care.
His teaching journey includes nearly two decades as a Senior Lecturer Practitioner at Northumbria University and Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in complex musculoskeletal cases and advanced clinical reasoning. Since 2016, he has continued shaping future physiotherapists as an Associate Lecturer at Northumbria University. Most recently, Gerard served as Clinical Pathway & Governance Lead at Tyneside Integrated Musculoskeletal Service (2018–2024), driving quality improvement and innovation in patient care.
Gerard’s passion for advancing physiotherapy extends beyond the classroom. He has contributed extensively to research, presenting at major conferences such as the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Conference and the International Society of Electrophysiology and Kinesiology Conference. His work has been published in leading journals, including Disability and Rehabilitation and the International Journal of Therapy and Rehabilitation.
Outside of teaching and research, Gerard is passionate about fitness and sports performance coaching. He’s a keen competitor in Hyrox Fitness Racing and enjoys Touch Rugby, Park Run, swimming, and cycling. Most importantly, he’s a proud father of three and loving Grandpa to one, cherishing time spent with family.
