Jason Metcalfe
(Sports Massage)

I recently completed the Level 4 Sports Massage course with Breeze Academy, and the experience has been transformative for my career. As a physiotherapist working both within the NHS and private practice, the course significantly enhanced my manual therapy techniques, broadened my understanding of musculoskeletal conditions, and refined my skills in musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

Mia Henderson (Sports Massage)

This academy is AMAZING. Claire trained us all at university for the level 4 sports massage training course. Her knowledge is so broad and goes into immense detail about everything. She is very patient with new learners and a great teacher! I’m definitely going to be looking at further courses to extend my knowledge with this academy. I recommend it to everybody. Thanks so much Claire!

Kathryn Bell (Sports Massage)

Carl and Claire have been extremely helpful during my L4 sports massage course. Everyday was interesting and very engaging due to there being such a wide range of information and techniques to learn. It has also helped me to brush up on my anatomy and common pathologies at different joints again which was much needed.I would definitely recommend Breeze Academy to others. Thank you!

Alin Maxim (Sports Massage)

I have attended a Level 4 Sports Massage course which was really enjoyable and offered plenty of practice opportunity. Carl is a professional and knowledgeable tutor and he provided a very high standard of teaching on the face-to-face days. The online learning is also clear and well structured and there are lots of learning materials available to prepare you for the assessments.

Oscar Bartram (Sports Massage)

The team at Breeze Academy provided excellent support and an environment that allowed for developing our MSK theory and combing it with the practical elements necessary for this hands-on skill. A massive thank you to those involved 🙌🏻

Looking ahead, I am excited to utilise this qualification to contribute to the health and performance of both athletes and those invested in their fitness…

Frequently asked questions

Are our sports massage courses accredited and recognised by professional bodies?

Yes, our sports massage courses are fully accredited by both the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) and the Sports Therapy Organisation (STO), two of the most respected professional bodies in the industry. This dual accreditation means your qualification meets rigorous national standards for quality, professionalism, and relevance to real-world practice.

Do you need any prior experience in massage or healthcare?

If you’re starting with our level 3 sports massage course, you don’t need any previous experience or formal qualifications. It’s designed as an accessible starting point for anyone aged 16 or over who’s ready to begin a career in sports massage. Whether you’re switching careers, exploring a new passion, or taking your first step into the world of health and fitness, this course is a great place to begin.

For our level 4 sports massage course, you’ll need to have already completed a recognised level 3 qualification and have at least four months of hands-on practice under your belt (around 50 hours of massage experience). This ensures you’re ready to take your skills to the next level with more advanced techniques, assessment skills, and clinical reasoning.

Will you receive hands-on training during the course?

Absolutely – practical, hands-on training is at the heart of our sports massage courses. Throughout your face-to-face workshop, you’ll be guided by experienced clinicians who bring years of real-world knowledge to each session. You’ll spend plenty of time practising techniques, building confidence, and learning how to assess and treat clients safely and effectively.

From day one, you’ll be encouraged to get stuck in, ask questions, and refine your skills in a supportive environment. By the time you graduate, you won’t just understand sports massage – you’ll be able to deliver it with precision, professionalism, and confidence.

What support will you receive during the course?

From the moment you book, you’ll have access to a friendly and responsive support team who are here to help with anything you need – whether it’s questions about your course, scheduling, or general guidance along the way.

You’ll also benefit from ongoing support from your tutors, who are not only experts in their field but genuinely invested in your success. They’ll be available to answer questions and offer advice before, during, and after your face-to-face workshops – so you’ll never feel like you’re going it alone.

Whether you’re looking for help with technique, confidence-building, or career pathways, you’ll find the support you need every step of the way.

What career opportunities are available after completing the course?

Once you’ve completed your sports massage training, a wide range of career opportunities opens up. Many graduates go on to work in gyms, sports clubs, and rehabilitation clinics, while others build thriving private practices or work with sports teams at all levels.

Whether you’re looking to start your own business or join an established team, you’ll have the skills, confidence, and recognised qualification to take that next step. Our courses are designed to equip you with real-world knowledge and experience – so you’re well prepared to hit the ground running in whichever direction you choose.

Can you speak to a tutor before enrolling?

Yes, absolutely. We know that choosing the right course is an important decision, and we’re here to help you feel confident every step of the way. If you’d like to speak with a tutor before enrolling, you’re more than welcome to. You can book a one-to-one call at a time that suits you using the form on this page, or simply drop us a message with your questions. Whether you’re wondering about course content, career options, or what to expect on the day, our tutors will be happy to chat it through with you.

How will you be assessed, and are there any practical exams?

Yes, both our level 3 and level 4 sports massage courses include a range of assessments to make sure you feel confident, competent, and fully prepared to work with clients. But don’t worry – everything is clearly explained, and you’ll have the support you need throughout.

Level 3 Assessment Overview

  • Before the workshop: You’ll complete an online anatomy and physiology multiple-choice quiz to refresh the key foundations. You can take this as needed, with a pass mark of 70%.
  • During the workshop: On day 2 of your in-person training, you’ll complete a summative practical assessment, where you’ll demonstrate your hands-on massage skills in a supportive, real-world setting.
  • After the workshop: Once you’ve attended your training and finalised your course payment, you’ll be given access to your final online assessments. These include three case studies, each with accompanying multiple-choice quizzes. You’ll have a month to complete them, and there’s flexibility to resubmit if needed.

Level 4 Assessment Overview

  • Before the workshop: Similar to level 3, you’ll complete an online anatomy and physiology multiple-choice quiz to refresh key concepts. Again, you can take it multiple times, with a 70% pass mark required.
  • During the workshop: You’ll take part in a series of formative assessments throughout the in-person training, where you’ll work through injury-specific treatment tasks under tutor guidance. On the final day of the workshop you’ll demonstrate your skills in a practical assessment.
  • After the workshop: Once you’ve completed your face-to-face training and course payment, you’ll be given a month to complete your final online assessments, these include cases study reviews with multiple choice questions. Again, there’s flexibility to resubmit if needed.

Throughout the process, we’re here to help – and we’ve designed everything to support your learning, not trip you up.

What’s the difference between level 3 and level 4?

The key difference between level 3 and level 4 sports massage lies in the depth of training, the complexity of techniques you’ll learn, and the range of services you’ll be qualified to offer.

  • Level 3 is your entry point into the world of sports massage therapy. It teaches the essential skills and knowledge needed to provide general treatments, including pre- and post-event massage, and maintenance work. It’s perfect for those new to massage or starting out in the health and wellness sector. However, level 3 therapists aren’t qualified to assess or treat injuries, and most insurance policies won’t cover injury-specific work at this level.
  • Level 4 builds on everything you’ve learned at level 3, taking your knowledge and hands-on skills to the next level. You’ll learn advanced techniques such as soft tissue release, trigger point therapy, and muscle energy techniques – all designed to get better results, faster. Crucially, you’ll also develop the ability to assess and screen clients, identify injuries, and create tailored treatment plans. This opens up opportunities to work more independently and treat a wider range of clients safely and confidently.

So, if you’re looking to deepen your clinical understanding, expand your toolkit, and work with more complex cases – level 4 is your natural next step.

How long does the level 3 course take to complete?

Our level 3 sports massage course is designed to be flexible, supportive, and practical — so you can build confidence and real-world skills, without putting your life on pause.

Here’s how it works:

  • Pre-course study (40–50 hours): As soon as you enrol, you’ll gain instant access to our online learning portal. Inside, you’ll find high-quality content covering everything from anatomy and physiology revision to soft tissue dysfunction, health and fitness principles, and professional standards. You’ll also have access to a full video library of massage techniques, so you can start learning at your own pace — whether you’re brand new or brushing up on the basics.
  • Practical workshop (2 days / 16 hours): This is where everything comes to life. Over two immersive days, you’ll practise massage techniques under the guidance of our tutors with expertise in sports therapy, physiotherapy, and education. You’ll build hands-on skills, get real-time feedback, and develop the confidence to treat clients in a variety of settings — including pre-event, post-event, and maintenance scenarios.
  • Assessment (4 hours): Assessment is broken into three stages to support your confidence as you progress. You’ll start with an online anatomy and physiology quiz before your workshop (70% pass mark, with multiple attempts allowed). On the final day of your in-person workshop, you’ll complete three practical assessments in a supportive, hands-on environment. After that — once your course fee is settled — you’ll unlock your final online tasks: three case studies, each with a multiple-choice quiz. You’ll have a full month to complete them, with the option to resubmit if needed.
  • Self-directed learning (50 hours): Self-directed learning is a vital part of developing confidence and competence as a practitioner. This is your opportunity to take ownership of your development — diving deeper into topics through reading, refining your massage techniques, and developing treatments. Engaging in this kind of learning not only reinforces what you’ve covered in training but also helps you build the critical thinking and hands-on skills needed to thrive in real-world practice. This is your chance to reflect on your practice, complete independent reading, explore the latest research, and joining conversations in our Facebook forum.

From the moment you sign up, you’ll feel supported and in control — with expert tutors, flexible learning, and practical experience that prepares you for the real world.

How long does the level 4 course take to complete?

Our level 4 sports massage course is designed to work around your schedule while giving you the advanced skills and confidence to assess and treat a broader range of client needs — including pre-diagnosed injuries. It builds on your existing knowledge, sharpens your clinical reasoning, and prepares you to deliver more specialised, effective care.

Here’s how it all comes together:

  • Pre-course study (40–50 hours): You’ll begin with full access to our online learning platform, where you can refresh your anatomy and physiology knowledge and dive into advanced content on joint function, injury pathologies, assessment techniques, and professional practice. You’ll also get unlimited access to our video technique library — a valuable tool as you start working with more complex cases.
  • Practical workshop (3 days / 24 hours): This is where theory meets practice. Over three immersive days, you’ll refine your massage techniques, develop clinical reasoning, and work hands-on with injury-focused treatments — all under the expert guidance of our tutors. You’ll cover everything from maintenance and event massage to managing more complex musculoskeletal presentations.
  • Assessment (4 hours): Your assessments are spread across three stages. Before your workshop, you’ll complete an online anatomy and physiology quiz to refresh key concepts — you can take this as needed, with a 70% pass mark required. During the in-person training, you’ll work through a series of formative assessments, guided by your tutor as you develop injury-specific treatment skills. On the final day of the workshop you’ll demonstrate your skills in a practical assessment. After the workshop and once your course payment is finalised, you’ll have one month to complete your final online assessments, these include cases study reviews with multiple choice questions.

From the moment you enrol, you’ll be supported with expert guidance, in-depth resources, and real-world practice that helps you take your skills to the next level.

What conditions can you treat after completing your course?

If you complete level 3, you’ll be qualified to deliver general sports massage treatments such as maintenance, pre-event, and post-event massage. You’ll work with healthy tissue to support recovery, improve flexibility, and enhance performance. However, at this level, you won’t be able to assess or treat soft tissue injuries – and most insurance providers won’t cover you for that kind of work until you progress to level 4.

With level 4, your scope of practice expands significantly. You’ll be able to assess, treat, and manage a wide range of soft tissue injuries and dysfunctions. That includes more complex conditions like strains, sprains, overuse injuries, and postural imbalances. You’ll also learn how to apply advanced techniques and clinical reasoning to create tailored treatment plans – meaning you can offer more targeted, injury-specific care.

In short, level 3 gives you the tools to support healthy clients with general sports massage, and level 4 equips you to work with injured clients and address more complex musculoskeletal issues confidently and effectively.

Is sports massage hard to learn?

Like learning any new skill, sports massage can feel challenging at first – especially if you’re completely new to anatomy, physiology, or hands-on therapy. But the good news? You’re not doing it alone.

At Breeze Academy, we’ve designed our courses to support you every step of the way. From the moment you enrol, you’ll get instant access to our online portal so you can start learning at your own pace. You’ll also be guided by an expert team of educators, sports therapists, and physiotherapists, who know exactly how to take beginners and turn them into confident, capable sports massage practitioners.

We break things down clearly, provide plenty of hands-on training, and create a supportive learning environment where no question is too small. With a bit of commitment and curiosity, you’ll be surprised at how quickly your knowledge and skills grow.

Will you be able to start treating clients immediately after graduation?

Yes, absolutely! Upon completing your level 3 sports massage course, you’ll be fully equipped to start practising and offering treatments such as pre-event, post-event, and maintenance sports massage. You’ll gain the necessary skills and confidence to treat a variety of clients in settings like gyms, sports teams, and private practice.

However, to treat injuries and soft tissue damage, you’ll need to progress to level 4. Level 4 introduces advanced assessment techniques, injury-specific treatments, and rehabilitation strategies, enabling you to safely work with clients dealing with more complex issues.

Don’t worry about the logistics – we’ll guide you through everything you need to get started, from obtaining the correct insurance to ensuring you meet any local council requirements. Our workshops and ongoing support will ensure you leave the course feeling confident and ready to apply your skills in a professional setting. Plus, if you ever need additional help, we’ll be here to support you even after graduation.

What payment options are available?

You’ve got a couple of options when it comes to payment. You can either pay the full course fee upfront, or split the cost into monthly instalments if preferred. But just to let you know – in order to receive your certificate once you’ve completed your course, the full fee needs to have been paid.
