Training Pathway
Level 3 & Entry Level Acupuncture

Seeing as you’ll be starting with level 3 sports massage, there are no formal entry requirements for this pathway – it’s open to anyone with the motivation to learn and a genuine interest in helping others feel and perform at their best.

You’ll just need to be at least 16 years old and have good communication skills, which are key for building trust with clients and working confidently in a hands-on environment.

Designed for therapists who want a smooth transition into acupuncture, this pathway blends foundational sports massage skills with a comprehensive introduction to acupuncture theory and practice.

You’ll build clinical confidence through focused sports massage training, then move into acupuncture with clear protocols and safe needling techniques tailored to general health and wellness concerns.

This pathway is ideal if you want to:

You’ll complete two professionally recognised courses that complement each other — giving you a rounded skillset and solid stepping stone into acupuncture.

• Level 3 Sports Massage Course: Build your core massage knowledge and hands-on skills, learning effective techniques to support general wellbeing and muscle health. This course includes in-person practical training, online modules, and expert tutor support — perfect for gaining confidence in client assessment and treatment delivery.
• Entry Level Acupuncture Course: Take your first step into acupuncture with this accredited introduction that blends flexible online learning and an immersive practical workshop. You’ll learn acupuncture safety, foundational theory including Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, and key needling protocols designed for health and wellness applications. With expert tutors guiding you, you’ll develop safe and effective acupuncture skills that fit your existing practice.

Together, these courses equip you to confidently offer both massage and acupuncture treatments in a safe, structured way — enhancing your ability to support clients’ health holistically.

This pathway is designed for existing or aspiring therapists who want to build a strong foundation in sports massage while beginning to safely integrate acupuncture into their practice. It’s perfect if you’re new to therapy and want a clear, structured route into hands-on treatment skills, or if you’re looking to expand your expertise by adding acupuncture techniques to enhance client care.

If your goal is to work with a wide range of clients, this training offers the expert-led balance of practical experience and essential theory to give you the confidence to work safely and effectively. It’s also ideal if you plan to build a career in health and wellness or prepare for more advanced acupuncture training in the future.

This pathway equips you with a solid foundation in sports massage alongside essential acupuncture skills — giving you the confidence and competence to deliver safe, effective treatments that broaden your therapeutic toolkit.

By the end of the pathway, you’ll be able to:

• Deliver tailored sports massage treatments using a variety of techniques, including effleurage, petrissage, and deep tissue methods, adapted to support recovery, pain relief, and physical performance.
• Conduct thorough client assessments by gathering detailed subjective histories and performing objective tests, enabling clear treatment planning for diverse client needs.
• Understand and apply core principles of functional anatomy, physiology, and exercise science to underpin safe and effective massage practice.
• Work professionally within your scope, applying standards around consent, confidentiality, and client care with confidence.
• Safely integrate basic acupuncture protocols into your treatments, including introductory needling techniques taught within strict safety guidelines and defined parameters.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to common acupuncture side effects and understand contraindications and precautions to ensure client safety.
• Develop a foundational understanding of acupuncture theory and its practical application within a health and wellness setting.
• Reflect on your practice using case studies and tutor feedback, continuously refining your skills to build a successful, evidence-based approach.

This pathway offers a practical, step-by-step route to expanding your hands-on skills and clinical knowledge — preparing you to enhance your practice, offer new treatment options, and confidently move towards further acupuncture training if desired.

Once you enrol, you’ll receive a welcome email with everything you need to get started with your level 3 sports massage course. You’ll then confirm your preferred course date and location so we can book you onto your practical workshop.

We suggest leaving around 4–6 months between each qualification. This gives you time to absorb what you’ve learned, put your skills into practice, and build confidence before moving on. As you progress, your entry level Course will be added to your dashboard — unlocking the next step when you’re ready.

Whilst you’re doing one of our courses we recommend you get student insurance. Both the Federation of Holistic Therapists and the Sports Therapy Organisation offer student membership to cover you while you learn.

• Enrol and receive your welcome email – Once you’ve confirmed your course choice, go ahead and enrol! You’ll then receive a welcome email with all the information you need to access your level 3 course materials and prepare for your practical workshop.
• Confirm your course date and location – After enrolling, please confirm your preferred date and location for your level 3 course (if you’ve not done so already) to make sure everything’s locked in and ready to go.

As you progress through the pathway, you’ll have a recommended 4–6 months between each qualification to consolidate and apply your learning. The entry level course will be added to your dashboard as you move forward.
