On successful completion of our Level 3 and 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy, learners will develop their skills and knowledge in planning, providing and evaluating sport massage treatments to seek to correct common patterns of dysfunction, and/or pre-diagnosed injuries. Learners will use a range of basic and advanced massage techniques to treat soft tissue injuries.

Learners will feel confident, safe and effective in working with clients with a range of soft tissue injuries. You will be confident in conducting effective subjective and objective assessments, including a deeper understanding of the clinical application of a treatment plan.

Day 1

Pre-Workshop Online LearningOnline

We set out the course navigation (for both the online and face-to-face elements of the course), and provide an overview of how you will be assessed. Prior to the face-to-face session, you will also complete theory lessons on our online platform where you will learn:

  • Contraindications and precautions
  • Adverse events
  • How to deal with adverse events
  • Anatomy and physiology of the major joints of the body
  • The pathophysiology of common injuries/soft tissue patterns of dysfunction
  • The principles and practice of objective assessment techniques and the influences and effects which such information has upon treatment planning
  • How heat and ice may be used to safely support the soft tissue repair process

We make sure to explain all theory and jargon in an easy to understand manner, allowing you to pause, rewind and replay as often as you like.

Face to Face Workshop day 1

On day one of the face-to-face workshop, you will learn the following:

  • Purpose and Application of Palpation
  • Establish Treatment Goals & Subjective Assessment
  • Objective Assessment
  • Introduction to Massage Techniques (Effleurage, Petrissage, Tapotement, Vibrations, Frictions)

Face to face Workshop day 2

On day two of the face-to-face workshop, you will learn the following:

  • Assess ROM of major joints of the body
  • Purpose and application of MET’s (Muscle Energy Technique)
  • Legal Responsibilities & Best Practice
  • Constructing Treatment Plans

Face to face Workshop day 3

On day three of the face-to-face workshop, you will learn the following:

  • Effects and practical application of Pre Event Massage
  • Effects and practical application of Post Event Massage
  • Case Studies

Face-to-Face Workshop day 4 & 5

During the final two days of face-to-face sessions, you will learn:

  • How to conduct subjective and objective assessments
  • How to devise a sports massage treatment plan to help correct identified areas of soft tissue dysfunction and/or support the soft tissue repair process of previously diagnosed injuries
  • How heat and ice may be used to safely support the soft tissue repair process
  • How to apply a range of soft tissue mobilisation and neuromuscular techniques

Post Face-to-Face Online Learning & AssessmentOnline

After the face-to-face workshop, you will return to our online platform to consolidate your learning and to take your assessment.

  • Multiple choice Anatomy & Physiology theory exam (70% pass mark)
  • Sports Massage Portfolio submission
  • Practical assessment of Massage, including: Pre Event Massage, Post Event Massage, Maintenance Massage
  • Sports Massage Case Study (including Critical Evaluation)
  • Observed treatment (x5) to be recorded and submitted electronically
